I put a lot of thought into what I’d made for my first post. As someone who reads food blogs almost every single day (yes, I procrastinate pretty hardcore), I felt pretty overwhelmed. The possibilities were endless. Blueberry bars? Butternut squash soup? A fancy omelet? After many sleepless nights – okay, I’m exaggerating — I settled on something a bit more timely: a pumpkin smoothie.
The recipe I have in my family’s recipe box calls for pumpkin puree. I don’t cook with pumpkin often, so I was unsure of whether puree is different from canned pumpkin. I called my mom three times from Corrado’s and she didn’t pick up. Why own a cell phone if you aren’t going to answer it? I called my grandma, who told me they are in fact different. So Corrado’s didn’t have puree. A wave of anxiety came over me. An ex-boyfriend works at the Trader Joe’s in town. I was not about to go there, wearing sweatpants and a high school sweatshirt. I had one option left – Stop and Shop. Stop and Shop didn’t have puree, only canned pumpkin. 3 anxiety attacks later, I ran into my boyfriend’s friend’s mom, who told me my grandma was wrong and that puree is the same as canned pumpkin. In the middle of aisle 10, I gestured the sign of the cross.
What’s the moral of the story? Puree is the same as canned pumpkin, because these smoothies came out delicious.
If you’re big on pumpkin, this smoothie makes for a delicious breakfast or snack. Pumpkin is super healthy. And this is an easy clean up; you’re only dirtying the blender.
